Baxter Community School serves approximately 400 students Kindergarten - 12th grade. Students are bussed from a surrounding rural area of 69 sq. miles. Two recent additions have created a new City/School Library, Multimedia Center, and ICN Lab used by students as well as residents, Vocal Music/Band Room, Locker and Training Rooms, a Horticulture Learning and Dev. Center, and various business offices thus creating more regular classroom space for a growing enrollment. Baxter's centralized location offers easy access to both DMACC and Marshalltown Community Colleges along with several 4-year colleges in the area. |

Remarks: Along with 2 lovely parks, Baxter offers a newly developed joint City/School Recreational Complex. The new complex features various playing fields, a walking/jogging track equipped with user-lighting, a grandstand/locker/concession building, regulation sand volleyball court, picnic shelters, and a children's playground. Future plans include tennis courts, a community swimming pool, and a link to the Chichaqua Bike Trail. Baxter is home to the start of the 22 mile Chichaqua Valley Recreational Trail which lends itself to outdoor enthusiasts. Baxter's proximity to Des Moines, Newton, Ames, & Marshalltown allows easy access to many attractions. Attractions: music, theatre, arts & science, shopping, amusement/theme parks, sporting events, lakes with swimming/fishing Events: Local - Baxter Fun Days Celebration, Annual Hunter's Breakfast, Fireman's Ball, Pajama Bike Ride, and many other events within a 35 mile radius. |
